And, A Bloomin' Wednesday to You

Updated: Jun 21, 2020

Another summer has arrived.

The jasmine in the back yard is beginning to spread across the fence top, with the most gorgeous aroma escaping. I try to keep the back screen open, just to get a whiff of it every time I pass by the door. Beautiful aromas are very soothing and calming. But even though summer is upon us, it's still easy to get discouraged and stressed. There are so many concerns, demands, cautious re-openings, and uncertainties that we can find ourselves fearful or discouraged, at times. I am reminded of the verse in Matt. 6:28 (KJV), "Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; ...if God so clothe the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you...? The God of Nature created the magnificent flowers and, yet, they are not nearly as important to him as we, his children, are. So, if we just make an effort to be grateful and look for cheerful opportunities in our circumstances, He will take care of us, inspire us, and motivate us to feel edified and alive. Sometimes, I find myself running a mile a minute from dawn to dusk, only to wake up the next day and do it all over again! But stopping to "smell the flowers," or any other enjoyable activity, helps us refocus on something beautiful and encouraging, which will brighten our days and elevate our spirits.

Supportive family and friends do the same.

It is said that surrounding ourselves with inspiring people allows us to bloom and blossom right where we are planted, just like the most heartening flowers. We should encompass ourselves with positive people, as much as possible, because their optimistic attitude can rub off on us! They influence us to bring out the best in ourselves. We all have unique skills, talents, and charms; we just need to continue to develop them to the fullest. I love the saying, "The goal is not to change who you are but to become more of you at your best." So, as the popular song says, "Don't worry; be happy," and enjoy the blessings of colorful creations and encouraging people all around you. Remember God's promises; then just step back and watch yourself bloom!
